Chef Papi Tavares Story
Chef Papi Tavares is the heart and soul behind Magic Kitchen. A proud Cape Verdean and U.S. Army veteran, Chef Papi brings a lifetime of culinary experience and passion to every dish he creates.
Before opening Magic Kitchen, he worked in hospitality and restaurant leadership both in the United States and internationally, including serving as a general manager and executive chef in Cape Verde. His journey through military service and global culinary experiences shaped his deep respect for discipline, quality, and hospitality.
After settling in Massachusetts, Chef Papi set out to create a restaurant that reflects his roots, resilience, and love for feeding people. Magic Kitchen was born from that vision — a place where Cape Verdean tradition meets American comfort, and every guest is treated like family.
For Chef Papi, cooking is more than food — it’s culture, community, and connection. Through Magic Kitchen, he continues to share the flavors of the islands while honoring the hardworking spirit of New Bedford.
