About National Museum of Civil War Medicine
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine started as a private collection of medical artifacts. Now, those artifacts stand alongside a field hospital museum, a publishing center, and Clara Barton's Missing Soldiers Office, which was used to help families find their missing relatives during the war. Inside the museum, you can see everything from an authentic Civil War surgeon's tent to a 19th century holding coffin. Additionally, dioramas detail life on the front, the recruiting process, and the procedure for medical evacuations. All of these exhibits together tell the story of what it was like for soldiers in the Civil War when they interacted with medical teams.
