About Oxbow Stables
In 1959, Whitney Bowles had a good job in the airline industry ... and the back-breaking commute to show for it. One night when Whitney returned home, his wife Veron asked him a question that would change both of their lives: if you could have any job you wanted, what would it be? Whitney remembered back to his memories horseback-riding when he was younger, and decided he wanted to spend his days working with horses.
That conversation planted the seeds for Oxbow Stables, a working horse farm in New Jersey's picturesque Skylands region. More than 50 years later, the stable remains a local landmark, now under the stewardship of Whitney and Veron's daughter Tara and her team of trainers and instructors. What started as a small family venture has expanded with the times. Today, the stables feature two dressage arenas, an outdoor jumping arena, and a cross-country course complete with obstacles.
