What to Expect
At Petersen Art Center, Salt Lake City’s premier studio for hands-on creative expression, guests are taught everything from scratch with step-by-step instructions. Before your first class, participants should wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for getting muddy, with trimmed fingernails recommended for easier clay shaping. Starter tools and clay are conveniently available for acquisition directly at the studio during the initial session, ensuring a smooth start to the creative journey.
Each week, experienced instructors provide fundamental techniques, guiding students through centering, shaping, trimming, and glazing. The curriculum is supportive for both complete beginners and continuing students. Participants also receive 6 hours of open studio time to utilize electric potters' wheels and work on projects at their own pace, culminating in unique, high-fired, and glazed pottery pieces ready to take home.

Each class session is 2 hours, for a total of 4 weeks of instruction, plus 6 hours of flexible open studio time.

Important Information: A 24-hour cancellation policy applies prior to the first class of the month; notification must be given before 24 hours of the first class to hold the voucher. If you miss any class, it is easy to make it up with any other available class.
