New York Appraisal Trainee Licensing Requirements
  • 87 Hours of Qualifying Education: For applications submitted on or after January 1, 2026, New York requires 87 hours to become an Appraiser Trainee. That is up from 79 hours and reflects the new AQB-mandated Valuation Bias and Fair Housing requirement. This deal covers all required hours.
  • Supervisory Appraiser: Line up a Supervisory Appraiser to oversee your training. In New York, a supervisor can oversee no more than three trainees at a time.
  • State License Application: After you finish your courses, apply for your Appraiser Trainee credential through the New York Department of State, Division of Licensing Services. The application includes a background review. No licensing exam is required at the Trainee level.
  • Advance Your License: Log supervised experience hours toward your next license level: Licensed Residential, Certified Residential, or Certified General Appraiser. Advancing beyond Trainee requires additional education, experience hours, and a passing score on the National Uniform Licensing and Certification Examination.
System Requirements & Redemption
  • Devices: Access courses on any computer, tablet, or mobile device with an internet connection.
  • Course Access: 6 months of access included after enrollment. Extensions available for an additional fee.
  • Are There Final Exams? Yes, each course ends with a timed final exam that you'll need a 70% or higher to pass. Final exams are proctored and must be taken at a New York State location approved by NY DOS. Each course also includes quizzes along the way to reinforce what you're learning. Note: final exams are separate from the state licensing exam, which isn't required until you advance beyond the trainee level.
  • How to Redeem: After purchase, you will receive instructions to create your RealEstateU account and access your courses immediately.
