Virginia Appraisal Trainee Licensing Requirements
  • 87 Hours of Qualifying Education: Virginia requires 87 hours of qualifying education to become an Appraiser Trainee, including the AQB-mandated Valuation Bias and Fair Housing course. This deal covers all required hours.
  • Supervisor/Trainee Course: Complete the 4-Hour Supervisory Appraiser and Trainee Appraiser Course before you begin logging experience hours. It's included in this deal.
  • State License Application: Apply for your Appraiser Trainee license through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) once your courses are complete. No experience hours and no state licensing exam are required at the Trainee level.
  • Supervising Appraiser: Line up a qualified supervising appraiser to oversee your work as you begin building experience hours.
  • Advance Your License: As you gain experience, advance to Licensed Residential, Certified Residential, or Certified General Appraiser. For example, the Licensed Residential level requires 1,000 experience hours over at least 6 months. Advancing beyond Trainee also requires additional education and passing the state licensing exam.
