California MLO Licensing Requirements
  • NMLS Account: Create an NMLS account and obtain your NMLS ID before starting your course. You can apply through your employer or as an individual.
  • Pre-Licensing Education: Complete the required NMLS-approved coursework — 20 hours (DRE path) or 22 hours (DFPI path).
  • Pass the SAFE Exam: Pass the National MLO SAFE Test with a score of 75% or higher.
