After a day on the water, return to the River Expeditions Adventure Resort — your basecamp for the weekend. Cool down in the outdoor pool or soak in the hot tub, refuel with complimentary beverages and a continental breakfast each morning, and settle into your campsite under the West Virginia stars. The resort also puts on-site paintball, zipline tours, sand volleyball, and hiking right at your doorstep, so the adventure doesn't stop when the river does. Paintball and zipline tours are available for an additional fee.

The gorge alternates between churning rapids and calm pools, with giant holes, roller coaster waves, and highlights like Jump Rock, Swimmer's Rapid, and West Virginia-style surfing. You'll finish the day beneath the world-famous New River Gorge Bridge.
Lower Gauley Rafting
Intermediate • Ages 12+ • 5–7 Hours • September–October
Consistently ranked among the top rivers in the world, the Lower Gauley is a watery roller coaster set in a pristine wilderness canyon. With over 35 rapids — including the legendary Pure Screaming Hell, Canyon Doors, Koontz Flume, and Heaven Help Us — this trip is the perfect next step after the Lower New River.
Upper New River Float
Beginner • Ages 6+ • 5–7 Hours
A mellow, scenic journey through New River Gorge National Park, perfect for families with young children or anyone seeking a low-impact introduction to rafting. Mild waves, playful pools, and stunning nature give way to swimming, wildlife spotting, and photography. Choose a guided raft, paddle your own inflatable kayak (ducky), or upgrade to an oar-assisted raft.
Important Information: Camping is campsite-only. Bring your own tent, bedding, and camping gear. Gratuity for guides is not included. The Lower Gauley trip runs September–October only. The Upper New River Float Trip is the best option for families with children ages 6 and up.
