Do I Need a Smog Check?
Your DMV renewal notice will indicate if one is necessary. Most vehicles in California must undergo a smog check every 2 years, especially during DMV renewals, vehicle sales, or first-time registration after out-of-state relocation.
Not all vehicles require testing. It depends on your vehicle’s model year, fuel type, and where it's registered. Hybrid vehicles, electric cars, and models within certain age exemptions may be excluded.
STAR Check — Done Right
Smog Zone is a STAR Certified Testing Center. This designation means your vehicle has been selected by the DMV to visit a location that complies with the highest standards of the California BAR and is subject to continual oversight.
STAR Stations are the only locations authorized to issue compliance certificates for DMV-directed smog inspections. Regular stations can only serve vehicles not specifically routed to STAR stations.
