About Museum of Indian Culture

The Museum of Indian Culture provides a portal to the cultural history of the Lenape and other American Indian tribes. This history gains form and texture in the Northeast Woodland Room, where handmade basketry, beadwork, and pottery rest on display. Nearby, the Inter-Tribal Room demonstrates the breadth of cultures in the area. Its exhibits include a Lakota morning-star quilt, a Cheyenne sash, and Navajo sand art. For a more hands-on lesson, patrons can see how indigenous people made fire from a bow drill, practice using a dart thrower, or hear stories that were originally told by tribal elders.

In addition to its exhibits, the museum conducts regular educational events. During Saturdays at the Museum, guests can step into American Indian culture by practicing their hunting and gathering skills in the field, going on an insect safari, or learning about societies that existed before Columbus discovered the continent and named it after Amerigo Vespucci. The Museum also sponsors the Roasting Ears of Corn Festival—with flint knapping, tomahawk throwing, and artifact displays—and the Three Sisters Harvest, which donates food and other supplies to American Indian families in need.

Loved! The museum is a home built by the Beiber family in the 1800s. The home is 200 years old!! Such a cool house. It may appear small but the displays surrounding the Indians did not disappoint! I would have stayed much longer but that’s hard with young children. The volunteer was informative, eager to talk about the history, and made our visit that much better.

Very knowledgeable staff member. Gave us a personal tour highlighting not only the artifacts on display but stories that went along with them. It was very interesting. My 9 year old son learned a lot and was able to ask questions. I would visit the museum again.

The museum is a little gem right here in Allentown. After passing by it more times than I can count, we finally decided to take a look! The staff made the tour so enjoyable and gave us so much insight into the history of the Lenepe indians and the site to which the cabin stands.

Me . West is extremely knowledgeable and enjoyed my experience . It is very small but there is so much history packed in this little place . Mr. West answered any questions I had and even more . It was like having a private tour guide of info . There is a research library that you make an appointment with which I would love to use but unfortunately, I live to far and just happened to be here on a getaway . There is a little Souvenir shop . There is a tip box for Mr. West which I did provide for his excellence and his knowledge and patience . Will visit again if I’m in the area with my family . Thank you Mr .West . It’s small it’s best to meet with Mr . West for assistance in the info and history behind it . Trust me you’ll be there longer and have a wealth of knowledge when leaving .

What an amazing experience! The gentleman who runs this establishment is extremely informative and you can tell he loves sharing the history of the Native American cultures. He spent time with both my children individually teaching them and sharing information that caught their attention. He even let my son play a game that they used. It is a must see!!!
