If you want to visit the grounds do not go when it is raining. Otherwise it is a beautiful place. Great tour and very interesting museum.

My grandchildren, ages 14 and 12, my adult son and I all enjoyed our visit. We spent about 3 hours on the grounds and still did not see everything. It is my understanding that picnics are allowed on the campus, as long as everything is cleaned up afterwards. Be sure to take the guided tour of the house. At this time, photography is allowed, but please, no flash. Wear comfortable shoes, especially if you plan to go to the back side of the property to visit with the animals ( sheep, goats, horses of all sizes and a camel).

We went to the last tour of the day and was worried we wouldn't have enough time to visit the museum etc., friendly staff informed us even though the home closes at 5pm, we would have until 6. Will definetly return. Animals on grounds are friendly!

The "tour" was ridiculous and your guide was equally as bad. We were shown the main house and the tour consisted of telling us who slept in what room and how hurricane Katrina caused damage. Nothing about Jefferson Davis the person.
