About Texas Contemporary

Though it built its fame as a rough-and-tumble oil town, Houston has one of the largest, most vibrant art scenes of any city in America. As the city's most prominent contemporary art shows, Texas Contemporary puts these refined tastes on display for the fifth year in a row. The 2014 edition welcomed more than 15,000 collectors and art fans, who searched for striking pieces curated by dealers from around the country. This year's show looks to exceed those record-setting numbers, with expanded dates and a new location at the George R. Brown Convention Center. In addition to tapping into the global art market, this year's show also features plenty of local flavor, too; exhibitors include mainstays of the Houston gallery scene, such as Inman Gallery, Cardoza Fine Art, and David Shelton Gallery. 2015 also brings a partnership with The Mexican Consulate in Houston's Department of Cultural Affairs for The Other Mexico, a program which displays and deepens the decades-long connection between the art worlds of Houston and Mexico City.

I really enjoyed the event. There was so much to see. Well put together. I enjoyed the fact that it included local non-profits to a gallery from the UK. Also, everyone was very friendly. Next year I will definitely get a two day pass.

We saw everything without lingering too long (including walking over for surprisingly good take-out chili at Greens) all in an hour and a half. Didn't need to pay $10 for all-day parking. Park for free on the street and walk in, if you can.
