I tell you what I told an friend who hasn't played Birkdale in a long time just like I hadn't: The greens are a bit too fast for my taste. They were either the first or second fastest greens I've played this year (the other being a course at Myrtle Beach). I'm not saying fast greens are a bad thing (but I like mine a bit slower), but that's the way the course is: Fast Greens. I just wanted my friend to know that before he played there.
