Working with the belief that individuals should be able to keep their pet companions as they enter the last stages of their lives, the Those Left Behind Foundation serves as an alternative to placing beloved pets in unknown shelters. Instead, when pet owners enter hospice care or an assisted-living facility, the organization places their pets in well-screened foster homes, and takes them to visit their former caretakers until the end. The foundation also serves as a rescue organization for animals that have been abandoned or abused, and helps educate the community about the importance of caring for animals.
