About Marine Discovery Center

Local creek waters and river tributaries empty into an estuary along more than 150 miles of Florida's east coast. There, the freshwaters mix with salty Atlantic currents to form the Indian River Lagoon. The lagoon supports the highest levels of biodiversity found in any North American estuary. Preserving this delicate and species-rich ecosystem is the goal of Marine Discovery Center, a nonprofit corporation headquartered on the banks of the river. The MDC connects citizens to nature through kids’ summer camps, educational outreach, and frog-kissing booths. Kayak tours allow guests of all skill levels to navigate through the mangrove-framed waters of the lagoon in search of native birds, leaping mullet fish, and even Atlantic bottlenose dolphins.

Lisa was our excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable and approachable. Water was too cold (Dec 31) for the Dolphins but we had an excellent two hour kayak through the mangrove estuary. Just do it.

Great outdoor experience. We were first time kayakers and were a little unsure how we might do, but they were helpful and made it a wonderful morning where we learned a great deal about the marsh ecosystem.

Overwhelming positive Excellent tour guide,Lisa, was informative regarding water life, birds, and conservation ideas to restore our shorelines She and her fellow guides volunteer many hours to upgrade a previous site that was not used appropriately As we kayaked, Lisa had a wealth of knowledge that she shared with us I would highly recommend a tour at the marine discovery center and hopefully Lisa as your guide

Lisa, our guide and master naturalist gave our group of 7 a great tour It was most interesting but what we really appreciated was how accommodating she and her helper, Jason were to the needs of all the kayakers We had a variety of levels of experienced and inexperienced kayakers However, we all enjoyed the trip

Had fun. Guide was very polite and a pleasure to be with. Our group was small with only 4 people and 2 guides. There may be more in season on a day that did not call for rain.
