About Newport Butterfly Farm

Named as a Best of Rhode Island 2011 attraction by Yankee magazine, Newport Butterfly Farm cultivates a tapestry of colorful flying creatures. Celebrating its 23rd summer, the farm's enclosure houses hundreds of different butterfly species from across the globe, including white monarchs, common buckeyes, and chinese yellow swallowtails. A variety of mounted butterflies is also available for purchase to decorate a home office or serve as a warning to moths fluttering around your home office. Open until Labor Day, the farm's outdoor enclosure is also sometimes visited by larger flying critters, including wild turkeys and hawks.

Look for the sign. Don't be deceived by the appearance of the farm. It is well worth the trip.

Bring your camera. Lots of great photo opportunities. Wear Bright clothes. They attract the butterflies and they may land on you. Prepare your children ahead to be careful and gentle. Butterflies are fragile!

The Butterfly Farm is a definite experience to have. So much knowledge shared and the guides are able to talk to all age groups and interest levels to keep the trip meaningful for everyone. Beautiful butterflies and plants, too! A definite must do!

Make sure who you bring is aware it's an open area so they can fly past you.

It's a small butterfly zoo which allows you to get a better view of the butterflies. Sunny warm days are when you will see the most activity. Don't go on a cloudy, or cool day.

It was very small but the staff seemed to have plenty of knowledge and a genuine love of butterflies. It was in the high 80's when we went, but I would suggest going on a cooler day.
