About San Joaquin Asparagus Festival

A spear of asparagus can be fried whole, used to flavor asparagus ice cream, or drawn cartoon-style and turned into a festival mascot. At the family-friendly San Joaquin Asparagus Festival, the versatile vegetable appears in all three forms. The asparagus dishes can be found in Asparagus Alley, whereas the mascot decorates the festival site, and just might make a cameo in the parade.

The festival makes sense for San Joaquin County, an agriculture hub, but even there, asparagus alone isn't a weekend's worth of entertainment. Hence the myriad other types of fun. For kids, there's a petting zoo and a Kid Zone packed with carnival games. Adults can browse a car show or sample the latest craft beers and wines.

-breading on asparagus changes. Not as flaky and light. Love the fairgrounds venue. So much better for kids and more vendors.

They hide the asparagus booths in a building in the back and it was over a two hour wait to get in, so we didn't. Those vendors lost money because of this I'm sure. And the corn dogs I purchased (2) for $13 were old and nasty!!! Did not make my day any better, I'm glad I didn't get sick from them.

No hour by hour program for us to look at and pick what we wanted to see. Walked all the way to the far end last, and found that there was a stage with all day entertainment. all the food was down that aisle too. Too big to walk and toooo crowded. We will not go to this again. The old one years ago was too spread out too. The stage was a block away so we had to walk through the crowed street to get to that stage. We went home after because we did not want to walk back to the park and back again to the car. The so called handicap parking was a long way from the front gate. Also we didn't know which way to go to find the front gate. The exit was hard to find too. paint the street or something. I am a festival nut, but can no longer walk all over the place like I use too.

they really need to move it back by the water......if they do that I will come back but I will not go back to the fair grounds where it is dirty, I would like to have tried some fried asparagus but the set up in the warehouse was badly executed. would have liked to see more asparagus being sold threw out the festival.
