The 2 hour ride out to where 5 whales were, was the boat ride from hell! Half the passengers were sick for the entire 4 hours. The crew were like army war medics, running around exchanging barf bags for fresh ones. Helping people to the restrooms so they didn’t fall. We saw a whale tail. A whale fin, and the humps on the backs of 3 other whales. All were far in the distance. TERRIBLE!

A terrific trip! The boat was clean and well-maintained, the staff was friendly, and they didn’t overbook so there was plenty of space. Best of all, the captain communicated with other tour operators to learn where the whales were and went out of his way to take us there. We saw a lot of different whales and the staff was very knowledgeable and educated us about what we were seeing.

Best trip for viewing whales that we have ever had. Trip out to the siting area was rough but viewing made it worth it. Out of state guests had quite the experience. Amanda was very informative and staff were helpful to those who experienced sea sickness.

Ended up going on a day with very rough seas, so much so that >50% of the boat was seasick. The staff turned the boat around early and worked hard to make everyone’s trip back comfortable. That meant constantly checking on every single passenger, handing out ginger candies, and small tips to help the nausea. Even with the terrible conditions, I’m excited to go back on a new day with some sun!

Fantastic time, amazing captain, and crew!! The whales cooperated too. 🤣 One reason I chose 7 Seas was the lower number of passengers and that they left an hour after their competitor. (May be more effective in knowing where the whales were 😉) Absolutely true!!!

About 7 Seas Whale Watch

As many as 15 species of whales populate the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. The mission of 7 Seas Whale Watch is to bring passengers within eyeshot of these enormous sea creatures as they thrash about, breaking the water's surface with their enormous heft and diving gracefully back below.

Seven of the species that populate the area are defined as great whales, which means they reach 30-feet at full growth. So while the tours spend 90 minutes in the whales' feeding area, customers might spot humpback whales, finback whales, minke whales, and even Atlantic white-sided dolphins. As the whales appear, grandiose and graceful, an on-staff naturalist describes the different species and their behaviors. Though whale sightings are never guaranteed—the whales are wild and act entirely on their own whims, much like tenured philosophy professors—7 Seas boasts a 99% success rate for spotting whales, and they offer free rain checks if whales don't appear.

Customers scan the seas from the sun decks or heated cabins of The Privateer IV. The boat was built to accommodate 300 passengers, though 7 Seas' trips top out at 149 passengers to ensure space, comfort, and a good view.
