The surgery begins with the creation of a small flap on the corneal surface via a Microkeratome instrument, after which a laser reshapes the curvature of the cornea under the flap. Next, the flap is replaced and sealed to the rest of the cornea, which doesn't require any stitches or sutures. Eyes heal well enough for patients to see normally after one day, with the vast majority of procedures resulting in 20/20 or better vision.
