This tour covers all seven caves carved into La Jolla’s golden sandstone cliffs—Sunny Jim’s, Arch, Clam’s, White Lady, Little Sister, Shopping Cart, and Sea Surprize. Each one looks a little different depending on the tide and light: some open wide and echo, others hide behind curtains of kelp. Sunny Jim’s is the only cave you can also reach by land, through a century-old tunnel that’s part history, part workout. Clam’s Cave is the one visible from shore, often framed by a few lazy sea lions.
