Hotel at a Glance: Humphreys Half Moon Inn

Humphreys Half Moon Inn is located on Shelter Island, a resort oasis on San Diego Bay. The property operates its own private marina where sailboats and yacht charters come and go year-round. This waterfront setting provides dazzling views and helped inspire the resort’s tropical vibe. Palm trees and tiki torches decorate the grounds, and guest rooms feature custom tropical decor.

  • Room with a view: Tropical guest rooms overlook the pool and the gardens; other units have views of the bay and city skyline.
  • On the menu: Humphreys Concerts Bayside Cafe serves dishes such as halibut macadamia with basmati rice, orange segments, and mirin-ginger sauce.
  • Explore the island: Ride a bike along the 3-mile waterfront path or go fishing off the Shelter Island pier.

San Diego’s Shelter Island: Marinas and Yachts on San Diego Bay

Marinas and yachts dot the horizon in San Diego’s Shelter Island, a small strip of land that stretches into San Diego Bay off the coast of Point Loma. It’s one of the city’s major boating zones, where you can catch sailing or fishing charters that seek out yellowtail and albacore tuna, halibut, and dorado in the deep waters of the Pacific. Shoreline Park runs the entire 1-mile length of the neighborhood; head here to stroll a promenade overlooking the bay, drop your line from the public fishing pier, and gaze at public art installations that include a bronze bell gifted in 1958 by San Diego’s sister city of Yokohama, Japan.

Just across the bay, San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter is arguably the trendiest listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The area forms both the historic center of town and a hub of nightlife, with nearly 100 Victorian-era buildings occupied by high-end boutiques, jewelers, and gourmet restaurants. A couple of miles away, the city’s iconic Balboa Park contains 17 museums, as well as the world-famous and much-beloved San Diego Zoo. Be sure to visit the Spanish Village Art Center while you’re here—the living gallery hosts local artists who produce pottery, handblown glass, and oil paintings for sale.

OMG! Rad place to stay! I saw the B-52’s there like 25 years ago. Fun to take me kids there. Only complaint is that the parking spots are ridiculously small. Like, who on earth made that decision? Fail! But the rest of the place is great! Would stay there again!

Great stay ! I put 4 stars only because you have to pay for parking even when you have a room there which is crazy and because the staff at the lounge taking food orders were somewhat rude while we were making our orders by talking over us and cutting us off while ordering. Other than that everything was great pool was amazing and check in was smooth !
