  • About the Accommodation: Garoupas Inn is located in Ponta Delgada and offers a shared lounge, a terrace, and beautiful sea views. Praia de São Roque is just 500 m away, Praia das Milícias is 800 m away, and Praia do Pópulo is 1.8 km from the property. The guesthouse features a hot tub and luggage storage for added comfort. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a flat-screen cable TV, a coffee machine, a wardrobe, free Wi-Fi, and a private bathroom with a shower and hairdryer. Some rooms also include a balcony. Suggested Itinerary for São Miguel Island

Day 1: Arrival & Accommodation

Arrive on São Miguel Island, pick up your rental car, and check in to your accommodation. Take the day to relax and recharge after your journey. If time allows, explore Ponta Delgada, the island’s capital, known for its historic streets, harbor views, and authentic local atmosphere.

Day 2: Lakes, Waterfalls & Beaches

Begin the day at Lagoa do Fogo, a stunning volcanic lake nestled in the island’s interior, offering breathtaking views of its blue waters surrounded by lush green hills. Continue to Praia do Areal de Santa Bárbara, a long sandy beach with powerful Atlantic waves—perfect for a peaceful walk or surfing. End the day in Porto Formoso, a charming fishing village with scenic coastal views and a timeless feel.

Day 3: Tea Plantation & Scenic Viewpoints

Start at Miradouro de Santa Iria, enjoying sweeping views over rolling green hills and the Atlantic Ocean. Visit the Gorreana Tea Factory, one of Europe’s last tea plantations, to learn about tea production and sample local teas. Continue to Lomba de São Pedro for countryside panoramas, then to Miradouro do Salto do Farinha overlooking a waterfall. Cool off at the crystal-clear Poço Azul lagoon before finishing with a walk along the PR39 SMI trail, known for its beautiful landscapes and unforgettable views.

Day 4: Thermal Springs, Culture & Iconic Views

Enjoy a diverse day of experiences. Relax in the natural thermal waters of the Spa of Ferraria, followed by dramatic ocean views at Miradouro da Ponta do Escalvado. Refresh yourself in the Piscinas Naturais “Caneiros”, then visit the historic Igreja de São Nicolau in Ribeira Grande. Take in panoramic scenery at Miradouro da Grota do Inferno, admire Lake Sete Cidades from Miradouro da Vista do Rei, and end the day at Plantação Ananases A Arruda to learn about traditional pineapple cultivation.

Day 5: Thermal Pools, Waterfalls & Cliffs

Begin at Parque da Caldeira Velha, soaking in thermal pools surrounded by lush vegetation. Continue to Salto do Cabrito, a waterfall cascading into a serene forest setting. Visit Our Lady of Peace Chapel for its tranquil atmosphere and scenic views, then finish at Farol do Cintrão, a lighthouse offering spectacular views over the dramatic Atlantic coastline.

Day 6: Waterfalls & Furnas

Explore Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeirões, home to waterfalls, old mills, and rich greenery. Stop at a coastal viewpoint overlooking the wild shoreline before hiking to Salto do Prego, a hidden forest waterfall with a natural pool. Relax in the hot springs and enjoy warm mineral waters, then head to Furnas, a town shaped by geothermal activity and a mystical ambiance.

Day 7: Thermal Relaxation & Highest Peak Hike

Start the day with a soothing soak in warm mineral springs. Later, hike Pico da Vara, São Miguel’s highest peak at 1,105 meters. The trail passes through untouched nature and expansive green landscapes. From the summit, enjoy breathtaking views and a powerful sense of connection with nature.

Day 8: Departure

If time permits before your flight, visit local markets, sample fresh local food and fruit, buy souvenirs, and enjoy a final coffee in the city. Head to the airport in time to return your rental car and begin your journey home.
