Your Suggested Itinerary

Italy: 7-Day Flavours of Campania

Day 1 Arrival in Naples — Where Pizza Was Born 🇮🇹 — Arrive at Naples Airport (NAP), pick up your rental car, and let the chaos and charm of the city begin. Head into the historic centre for a walk to Castel dell’Ovo overlooking the glittering Gulf of Naples, then stop at the legendary L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele for an authentic Neapolitan pizza — the perfect first night welcome.
Day 2 Pompeii & Volcanic Wine — Beneath the shadow of a sleeping giant, walk through ancient streets frozen in time at the world-famous archaeological site of Pompeii, buried by Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Then pass through the coastal town of Castellammare di Stabia before hiking to the crater of Vesuvius — the only active mainland volcano in Europe. End the day with a tasting of Lacryma Christi wine at Cantina Del Vesuvio. Optional: Pompeii entry from $20 • Vesuvius NP entry from $15.
Day 3 Island of Capri — The Blue Dream — A short ferry ride transports you to a world of turquoise grottos and sweeping panoramas. Visit the magical Blue Grotto, its sea cave lit by ethereal blue light, then climb the ancient Phoenician Steps toward Anacapri. Ascend Monte Solaro for breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and explore the beautiful terraces of Villa San Michele. Optional: Blue Grotto entry from $20.
Day 4 Positano, Amalfi & Furore — The Coastline That Stops Time — Every turn of the road reveals another postcard scene. Begin at the dramatic hidden Fiordo di Furore, one of Campania’s most spectacular natural wonders, before winding your way to the iconic cliffside village of Positano, draped in bougainvillea. Continue to Amalfi — a historic maritime republic with a stunning cathedral and lively waterfront — and end the day with a visit to celebrated coastal winery Cantine Marisa Cuomo.
Day 5 Ravello, Salerno & Campagna — Leaving the glamour of the coast behind, the road winds inland into a quieter Campania. Visit the hilltop village of Ravello, celebrated since Wagner’s time for its villas and panoramic gardens, then explore the underrated coastal city of Salerno and the remarkably preserved Greek temples of Paestum. Continue to a winery visit in Campagna before descending into the Pertosa-Auletta Caves — one of southern Italy’s most spectacular underground cave systems. Optional: caves entry from $20.
Day 6 Benevento & the Royal Palace of Caserta — From an ancient city shrouded in legend to a Baroque palace that rivals Versailles. Explore Benevento — with its Roman ruins, triumphal arch, and age-old reputation for witchcraft — then visit the Royal Palace of Caserta (UNESCO World Heritage Site), one of the largest palaces in the world, before checking in to your final hotel in the heart of Caserta.
Day 7 Departure — Drive to Naples Airport (NAP), return your rental car, and board your flight home. The suitcase is full, the palate is satisfied, and somewhere between the ruins of Pompeii and the last glass of volcanic wine, Campania quietly claimed a piece of your heart. Arrivederci!
