Medical Massage is a type of Manual Therapy much like Physical Therapy and Chiropractic care. Along the spectrum/continuum of the healing and/or maintenance path. Clients/Patients who have experienced an injury must have been referred for a Medical Massage prior to booking their sessions. In General, they will be either referred by Orthopedics, Physical Therapists, or Chiropractors. Medical Massage can be a personal choice. However, it must be carefully consulted with one or several of the aforementioned Medical Healthcare professionals.
When It comes to maintenance or general wear and tear that results from repetitive activities that stress the body in specific ways, athletes or heavily active people (individuals engaged in a heavy exercise routine), or individuals who have physically stressful jobs, may request a Medical Massage, granted that there is no current/ongoing injury that hasn't yet been attended to by one of the aforementioned Medical Professionals. In such cases, patients/clients, then, may request a Medical Massage for Maintenance for the purpose of being given a series of muscular healing processes that may include:
- Hot Stone Massage
- Hot Tool Scrapping
- Graston Technique
- Stretching: Passive/Active/Assisted
- Passive/Active Resistance
- Hot Towels
- MyoFacial Release
- Compressed Stretching
- Thera Gun
- Deep Tissue Massage
- Trigger Point * Sports Massage
Now, Medical Massage is not a Spa Massage. Clients will not disrobe and be set prone or supine on a table unless their condition so requires. Draping procedures will be followed to the comfort of both Patient/Client and Therapist. Clients will be required to present themselves for their Medical Massage sessions in attire that will allow their therapist to perform the aforementioned healing process, of which none of them are a cure. Rather, they are a step towards a healing, which takes time and dedication that are part of the Patient/Client medical routine, which can include Medication, attending their Orthopedic, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, and Medical Massage sessions as well as resting, icing, compressing, or applying heat if necessary outside of said sessions.
