In 1892, Joseph Alexander Magnus began distilling, blending, and rectifying whiskeys, gins, and other spirits, quickly becoming one of the most successful pre-Prohibition producers in the nation. Joseph earned a reputation for doing things the right way and doing them with passion. Joseph silenced his stills with Prohibition looming, but his legacy—and some original bottles of his whiskey—were carefully preserved and passed down through the family to today. Inspired by Joseph’s story, his great-grandson picked up the torch and has proudly reintroduced Jos. A. Magnus & Co. and his brand of spirits to the world. In March 2016, their Joseph Magnus Bourbon won a prestigious Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. You can find it at the distillery and the distillery's Murray Hill Club bar with their Vigilant gin and Royal Seal vodka.
