About Sergio's Doral

Ask a Floridian where you can find the best Cuban sandwich, and they'll give you an impassioned answer—and one that, is likely to be hotly debated by anyone who happens to overhear. Everyone has their own favorite, but Sergio's can officially say it makes the best Cuban in South Florida. The restaurant took top honors at the 2015 Cuban Sandwich Festival in Miami with a traditional version that layers ham, pork, Swiss, pickles, and mustard. (You'll find no salami here: as Carlos Gazitua, whose family owns Sergio's, says, "salami in a Cuban sandwich is like a scoop of guacamole on apple pie. It should not be done.")

Whether or not you agree with Carlos, it's hard to discount that the Gazitua family knows a thing or two about Cuban cuisine. They opened the first Sergio's in 1975, quickly finding popularity with their handmade ham croquetas. Sergio's has since become the country's first Cuban restaurant chain, serving dishes such as pan con bistec and chicken fricassee throughout the state of Florida. Forty years later, Sergio's continues to break ground—its health-conscious La Flaca menu is backed by a CrossFit Champion and an Olympic athlete, while the Doral location's new drive-thru was named Best Drive-Thru in 2015 from the Miami New Times.
