About Shabu & Mein
The Shabu & Mein dining room coolly encircles guests in white walls, gunmetal chairs, and accent walls comprised of distressed gray wood planks. But it's what's built into the tables that's the most interesting part. The glossy, flat, black panels on each tabletop are actually heating elements—small stovetops—that every guest can use to cook their own hot pot. The ultimate in customization, hot pot soups let the eater cook vegetables and meat themselves by plunging the ingredients they choose into a boiling broth. At Shabu & Mein, those might include yam noodles, udon, or even gluten-free Ramen, along with plenty of seafood and veggies. Ramen dishes range from traditional pork ramen and miso ramen to vegetarian, soy, and spicy tonkotsu ramens.
Other dishes here are flavorful in their own ways, and decadently overloaded with the likes of lamb and sirloin from traditional Japanese recipes. And yet, it's all served in an environment that seems to favor function and modernity. That juxtaposition doesn't seem to bother the restaurant's regulars though, who rely on Shabu & Mein for their noodle, dumpling, and Sriracha wing fixes. Additionally, a bar in the back of the restaurant serves the full menu in addition to before- or after- dinner drinks.
