About The Informative Midwife

My name is Carol Rademeyer, and I am a Certified Nurse-Midwife. I have attended thousands of births, and this is why I know what works well in labor, but this is also why I know what does not work well in labor. And that is fear. There is no doubt among countless childbirth experts that women who are fearful of their birth experience do experience more pain in labor and seem to have greater difficulty birthing their baby. Thanks to the research and observations by Dr Jonathan Dye and Dr Grantley Dick-Read, they observed that women who were more fearful of their birth experienced more pain in labor. Conversely, women who were not afraid seemed to birth more easily. This lead to our understanding of the fear-tension-pain-cycle. From this grew our understanding of the impact our "stress" hormones can have on our "labor" hormones, and their ability to slow down and even halt labor. From this valuable research sprang up countless child birthing education strategies and ideologies to help prepare women for their birth. The idea that a woman who is well prepared for her birth is the foundation of any childbirth education program. Traditionally most childbirth education classes have been provided in a generic platform Couples attend a childbirth class where they sit and listen to a presenter imparting information, typically about the physical process of labor. Over my career I have worked with women who have doubts of their upcoming birth and sometimes even fear. It is common to encounter first time moms who doubt themselves and their ability to birth their baby. This does cause worry and anxiety for these women. I have developed strategies with these women that became valuable tools for them in their birth, and I was able to witness first hand their birth success as they were able to achieve a fearless birth. I realized I could create a childbirth program that was unique in combining childbirth education with fear reduction. If we could remove any existing fears/self doubts and replace them with positive emotions and thoughts specific and unique to that woman, we stop the fear-tension-pain-cycle from starting. My Philosophy: Every women deserves a birth that is empowering and is free of fear, and it is possible for every woman to experience this. Meeting your baby for the very first time is one of the most important days of your life, and you deserve for that moment to be full of joy and free from fear. For these reasons, The Informative Midwife developed The Fearless Birth Program™ to help every woman achieve that goal. My career: My midwifery career started in South Africa where I delivered my first baby in 1997, and continued my practice there. After moving to the USA with my husband, I completed my Master of Science degree in Midwifery through Philadelphia University. I am currently board certified through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB), and I have been in full scope midwifery practice in the USA since in 2008. I remain as passionate today as the first day to help women achieve the birth that they want.
