When the sun is pouring through stained-glass windows, and you're lying on a mat in U Barre's quiet studio, it hardly feels like you're at a workout facility. But in fact, students get a lot of hard work done here, thanks to a calendar packed with barre classes. The barre classes feature a mixture of ballet and Pilates movements, which can help build strength, tone muscle, and burn calories. Private reformer sessions are also available, though even the open classes accommodate just a handful of students. This allows for plenty of one-on-one attention from instructors who draw from experience in nutrition, dance, and rehabilitating clients with injuries or chronic pain.
