About Art a la Cart

The detail-oriented instructors at Art a la Cart take students through each painting step-by-step, showing them how to mix and blend their own colors and build compositions from the background without having to first live among paintings in local art museums. They supervise students in a themed class series as they paint still-life fruit and candies, portray whimsical landscapes, depict parts of the San Francisco skyline, or emulate the style of a classic artist. Groups explore each subject and question its lack of Renaissance cupids in one of five locations, which include wine-cellar tasting rooms, underground wine bars, and a modern minimalist cocktail lounge. Staff members supply all acrylic paints, brushes, and other gear for each class; and though they don't provide any libations, instructors encourage participants to bring or purchase their own drinks.

At first was concerned that class was being held in the middle of a coffee house, but it did not present any problems and was quite enjoyable. Instruction was good and it is a very relaxing event.

I REALLY LOVE THE CONCEPT. THE VENUE WAS NOT WELL LIT. VERY HARD TO SEE AND MIX COLORS CORRECTLY. THIS NEXT COMMENT IS NO FAULT OF ANYONE -- THE GIANTS' GAME WAS ON TV (AND I WAS HAPPY FOR THAT) BUT IT WAS SO LOUD THAT IT WAS VERY HARD TO HEAR THE TEACHER. SO, I DO HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT ART A LA CART -- BUT, IT WAS FUN.

Paitun was difficult, teacher seemed overwhelmed and disorganized. Friends we made plans to be there had to leave as she didn't have any extra canvases even though they RESERVED their spots. I guess a person brought two friends and supposedly confirmed by "phone." my friends and I scheduled this in together weeks in advance. It was disappointing seeing them leave without painting. I'm disappointed on how the instructor handled the situation.
