How to Update Your Makeup for Fall

How to Update Your Makeup for FallBack in March, we scoured YouTube for tutorials on spring/summer makeup trends from our favorite video-blogging makeup artists. And as much as I loved those looks and have been rocking them, it’s about that time of year to swap in some more autumnal colors. Using trends spotted on the fall runways earlier this year at New York Fashion Week, I’ve picked out some products that feel more now yet aren’t too far from the summer styles I loved. Here’s how to transition six of last season’s looks into fall’s most on-point trends. skincare-deals-border_600c66 If you were wearing: Orange lipstick Switch it up to: Red or berry tones. These were seen on the runways of several designers, including Anna Sui (pictured below) and Jonathan Saunders. how-to-update-your-makeup-for-fall_red_600c390 From left: Michael Kors SEXY Lip Lacquer in Bombshell ($24); NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl ($25); Forever 21 Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia ($3.80); Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in 40 La Sensuelle ($35) Not sure which shade suits you best? If you were wearing: White eye shadow or liner Switch it up to: Silver shadows and liner, à la Donna Karan. This is such a subtle change, but as I learned from Vogue’s September issue, metallics are everywhere for the upcoming season—even on sneakers. how-to-update-your-makeup-for-fall_silver_600c390 From left: NARS Shimmer Eye Shadow in Euphrate ($25); wet n wild Perfect Pair Eye Wand in Black-Slate ($3.99); Urban Decay Moondust Eye Shadow in Moonspoon ($20)
If you were wearing: Shimmery bronzer Switch it up to: Glittery brown lip color. This warm hue still works for fall, you just have to shift it from your cheeks to your lips. See Rodarte’s chic take (love that sparkly beret!). how-to-update-your-makeup-for-fall_bronze_600c390 Clockwise from top left: Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Hermetic ($26.77); YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain in Brun Glace ($35); wet n wild Mega Slicks lip gloss in Bronze Berry ($1.99); Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick in Magnetism ($12.50)
If you were wearing: Blue eye shadow Switch it up to: Green eye shadow. Like the transition from white to silver eye makeup, this is a small change that still manages to feel really fresh. I especially loved this look paired with red lips at Anna Sui. how-to-update-your-makeup-for-fall_green_600c390 Clockwise from top left: Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream Waterproof Cream Color in Emerald Green ($23 at Sephora); Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Green ($20); Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow in Metallic Emerald ($32)
If you were wearing: Statement liner Switch it up to: Statement brows. Cat-eye and other statement liner designs are still relevant, but this is a nice alternative for those days you don’t feel like messing with heavy eye makeup. Or even when you do, like the Nicole Miller model pictured below. how-to-update-your-makeup-for-fall_brows_600c390 Clockwise from top left: Anastasia Beauty Express Brow Kit ($39.50), Chella Eyebrow Color Kit ($54); Senna brow scissor ($20); Senna Brow Shaper Duo ($20) Learn how to makeover your brows with help from the founder of Senna and a makeup artist from Chella.
