Wolfgang Puck's Chinois on Main has been a "quintessential L.A. classic" since the day it opened its doors in 1983, declares Gayot. And more than 30 years later, it remains "a perennial LA favorite," according to 10Best. Chef Rene Mata now fosters the treasured menu of Chinese-French fusion cuisine, which continues to inspire a wave of imitators, but has "always been unmistakably Chinois on Main," notes LA Times food critic Leslie Brenner. Visit one of LA's most popular restaurants and celebrate this innovative and internationally-inspired fare, created with California's freshest ingredients.

The dining room's bright colors, along with the flash of flames from the open kitchen, are sure to grab your attention. But your eyes will be drawn to the table when you're presented with an appetizer, like Szechuan pancakes with stir-fried duck, mushrooms and cilantro. Puck's signature chicken salad remains wildly popular for a reason, and the calamari is equally deserving of praise. You'll share one or two main dishes, like the whole sizzling catfish with ginger and ponzu sauce, or grilled Szechuan beef with spicy shallot cilantro sauce. But every food critic remarks on the Shanghai Lobster -- split, seared and broiled, enriched with coconut-tinged curry sauce and surrounded by fried spinach leaves. "What could be more festive," asks the LA Times' S. Irene Virbila. Pair main dishes with crispy spinach and duck fried rice, or any other two sides. The selection of homemade desserts fluctuate with the seasons, and your options include citrus floating island, chocolate fondant, and crème brûlée. Pass up an evening at Chinois, and "you've not only failed to fully explore the talent of Wolfgang Puck, you've failed to fully explore what it means to dine in Los Angeles," cautions Gayot, which this year named it one of it's Top 10 Classic Restaurants in the Los Angeles Area.
