"The owners are friendly and thoughtful," "the cabins were perfect," and "the restaurant was outstanding" at this peaceful retreat near the Metolius River. —Raves from LivingSocial Members

The Destination
When central Oregon's wheat farmers desired a quiet mountain vacation in the 1920s, they traveled to peaceful cabins set near the Metolius River. While a lot has changed since those first visitors cast a line in the river, the sentiment remains the same: Here, in the thick of the 2.6-million-acre Deschutes National Forest, which is home to more than 1,600 miles of hiking and biking trails, life revolves around peace, quiet, and communion with nature.

The Digs
Turn off technology and cue up the sounds of the great outdoors at Lake Creek Lodge. Several of the cabins still stand from the resort's early days, most are pet-friendly, and all come with a fully equipped kitchen. After stories are told and plates are cleared, play a friendly game of pool or ping-pong at the lodge. Later, doze off with a book by the lodge's fireplace, then whip up a homemade meal in your cabin. Or, hit The Bridges Restaurant for cinnamon rolls, bread, and pastries, plus a cup of joe from the espresso bar. It's open Thursday through Sunday for breakfast; and Friday and Saturday for dinner by reservation only. Kids ages 10 and younger can even eat free with the purchase of any item.

  • "This is a wonderful Escape. The owners are friendly, thoughtful, the food was FABULOUS. The cabin was cozy, right on the creek, and so very close to the Metolius River, the Camp Sherman store and everything. I love this place!"

  • "Great getaway. Nice people. Good hiking and biking. Close to town, yet plenty to do right on the premises. While it was just my husband and I, it would be an excellent place to take the family for an affordable, safe, vacation."
