The Destination
Beginning in Portland, drive no more than two hours in any direction and you'll find bountiful natural beauty that's yours for the taking. Head two hours west of Portland and you'll run into the Tillamook State Forest, covering 364,000 acres of secluded wilderness where swimming holes (including Bloom Lake), grassy campsites, and long-abandoned railroad tunnels beg to be explored. Just a few more miles west lies Tillamook Head and Ecola State Park, spanning nine miles of coastline and offering sprawling Pacific views—plus the chance for modern-day adventurers to follow in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark on the Oregon Coast Trail.

So what'll it be? Learning to backpack around Bloom Lake? Following the Salmonberry River through Tillamook State Forest? Traversing the cliffs of the Oregon Coast Trail? The choice is yours: With Pisgah Adventures leading the way, you'll have the chance to embark on a one- or two-night backpacking trip that includes a six- to eight-mile hike, tons of photo opportunities, and fun instruction on the basics of backpacking. Gear, meals, transportation—it's all provided by this experienced, eco-conscious guide service. Your mission: Get outside, soak up the scenery, and take Oregon by storm.

  • It’s hard to slap a single characterization onto Oregon’s geography... The landscape mixes rugged coastline and thick evergreen forests with barren, fossil-strewn deserts, volcanoes and glaciers.
