The Destinations
All roads lead to Rome—and it's clear why. This former seat of the Roman Empire remains one of the cultural capitals of the world. Hop on a moped to travel the city's seven hills from monument to museum to landmark. With its rich long history, the Eternal City is home to the ancient ruins of the Colosseum and the Forum; the Baroque opulence of St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican; and a culinary tradition that includes some of the best pizzerias and gelaterias on the continent.

But if Rome's seven hills are the historical seat of power, Italy's Amalfi Coast is the seat of paradise. Consider Sorrento: With its exotic Etruscan roots and hot-climate flair, this resort town has been a magnet for visitors, including the rich and famous, who flock to its idyllic beaches, luxury hotels, and seductive nightlife. One of Italy's most-renown producers of limoncello—a popular after-dinner drink—, Sorrento is also famous for its eye-popping scenery, like the island of Capri and its famed Blue Grotto, which tempt from a distance.

Nearby, passion is personified in the frenetic and vibrant streets of Naples, Italy's third-largest city. Hospitality isn't just an art here—it's a sacred code, most manifested in the region's unparalleled food scene. Nothing is served here that isn't fresh, from its local-caught seafood to its farm-to-table tomatoes, which are best tried atop one of the city's namesake pizzas. A walk along Piazza del Plebiscito with its throngs of passersby and beeping traffic is to touch a part of Italian life inseparable from its soul—a chaos both endearing and poetic.

But Amalfi's biggest draw is also its most dramatic: Pompeii, a utopia-turned-mass-graveyard due to a catastrophic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79, is a visual and intellectual feast for travelers who are awestruck by this impeccably preserved city. Wind through archeological digs and view the ashen casts of citizens frozen in time.

It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is simply haunting—and can be yours today courtesy of Key Tours International.
