hotel description

Hiking, biking, fishing, ATVing, and more: Do it all with a stay at this lodge in the Sierra Nevada range.

The Destination
What began as a rough-and-tumble timber town has blossomed into the best-kept secret in the Sierra. An hour's drive from both Reno and North Lake Tahoe, the town of Graeagle (pronounced "gray eagle") is home to fewer than 800 residents and covers little more than 11 square miles. But it sits in the heart of the Tahoe National Forest and at the doorstep of Plumas Eureka State Park, offering virtually unlimited opportunities for outdoor adventure. And, because it's a secret, you might just have it all to yourself.

The Digs
At Chalet View Lodge, you'll be treated to a cozy King Room, which features deluxe amenities like granite countertops and a loft level. Or, opt for the Terrace Suite, which boasts a gas fireplace, two levels, and a private terrace with mountain views. (Both accommodations have luxuries like pillow-top mattresses, 460-thread-count European linens, and flat-screen TVs.) Each morning you'll wake to an included continental breakfast of waffles, oatmeal, hard-boiled eggs, and yogurt. When you've had your fill, head for the on-site spa, which offers treatments like hot-stone massages or garden mint masks.

The Diversions
On-site, you'll have access to a host of outdoor action. World-class mountain biker Mark Weir was enlisted to design the pump track on the grounds, and the property's fishing ponds are stocked with rainbow trout. Those who prefer to hit the fairways can tee off on the on-site, nine-hole executive golf course.

Beyond the resort, the trails, waterfalls, lookout points, and scenic lakes of Plumas County await hikers of all levels. You'll also find horseback-riding adventures, from overnight trips to wagon rides. After a full day, you'll welcome dinnertime at on-site restaurant The Grille, which serves dishes like wood-fired pizza, or a filet mignon with a cabernet demi-glace. Sip a glass of wine or sample a craft beer from the on-site Eureka Peak Brewing Co.—the handful of small-batch brews rotates with the season.
