The Destination
Deep in the Colombian jungle, past tiny indigenous villages and idyllic waterfalls, lies Ciudad Perdida, or the Lost City. It's Colombia's answer to Machu Picchu—only more mysterious and majestic. Constructed 650 years before its Peruvian counterpart, the Lost City wasn't discovered by the outside world until 1972. Today, less than 20 percent of the site has been excavated by archaeologists, and visiting the Lost City requires hiking an arduous 21 miles that culminate with an ascent of more than 1,200 ancient stone steps. This is about as close as you'll get to living out your explorer fantasies.

Join OneSeed Expeditions on an eight-day trip to Colombia and the Lost City, with stops in the capital of Bogotá and the Caribbean town of Santa Marta. This intermediate-level trek covers about 30 miles of hiking, which takes a total of five days to complete. Crossing cool streams and waterfalls along the way, you and your group will sleep in tents and fuel up with three delicious meals each day, all prepared by your OneSeed guides. Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime?

The Itinerary
day 1: united states - colombia
Depart the United States for Colombia. Arrive in Bogotá, where a OneSeed staff member will greet you and take you to your bed and breakfast. Spend the afternoon exploring the city on your own.
Overnight in Bogotá.

day 2: bogotá
Head out of the city for a day trip to visit Zipaquirá (the famous salt cathedral) or a coffee plantation in Fusagasugá. Your local guide will provide insight into the rich culture of this amazing country. Return to Bogotá for a welcome dinner, where you will get the chance to try some of the local cuisine.
Overnight in Bogotá. Breakfast and welcome dinner provided.

day 3: lost city trail - 5 miles
The adventure begins! Wake up early to catch the first flight to Santa Marta, a beautiful Caribbean beach town and the oldest city in Colombia. Drive three hours to the trailhead and begin the trek to the Lost City. Enjoy the first sights and sounds of the jungle as you hike five miles, or about four to five hours, through this lush area before setting up camp for the night.
Overnight in a tent. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 4: lost city trail - 5 miles
Today's trek is another five miles, or about five to six hours. Pass by the indigenous town of Mutanshi and marvel at the well-constructed jungle huts that make up the town. There are plenty of opportunities to take a dip in a cool, clear stream along the way before having the evening to relax and rest your legs.
Overnight in a tent. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 5: lost city trail - 5 miles
After a hearty breakfast, you'll begin another five-mile day following the ancient trail that leads to the Lost City. You'll cross the Buritaca River nine times as you continue the ascent!
Overnight in a tent. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 6: lost city trail - 6 miles
Begin the day with a leg-burner as you climb the 1,200 steps that lead to the Lost City. Learn about the history of the ruins as your guide shows you around. Enjoy solitude and stunning views as you try to imagine what the city would have been like when it was built in 800 AD!
Overnight in a tent. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 7: lost city trail - 9 miles
Continue the seven- to eight-hour descent toward Mamey and enjoy a final day under the lush canopy. Pick up the 4WD vehicle that will take you back to Santa Marta. Join your fellow OneSeeders for a final dinner to celebrate your accomplishments.
