Follow up on that New Year's Resolution to get fit and take the once-in-a-lifetime trek to Everest Base Camp during this Nepal journey from Encounters Travel. It requires some preparation, but it'll leave you breathless—and not just from the altitude.

The Itinerary
Day 1: Departure
• Board your included or independently scheduled flight to Nepal

Day 2: Arrive in Kathmandu
• Meet the Encounters Travel representative at the airport and transfer to your hotel
• Settle in and get familiarized with the local area
Overnight at Kathmandu Apsara Boutique Hotel or similar.

Day 3: Start Your Trek
• Board an early morning flight to Lukla, which takes about 30 minutes
• Start your trek by descending about three hours to Phakding
• You'll pass by yaks as you follow the path of the Dudh Kosi River
• Note: the trekking itinerary is left slightly flexible to take account of how people acclimatise to the altitude

Day 4: Phakding to Namche Bazaar
• Trek to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park
• Then, make the strenuous climb to Namche Bazaar—you'll be hiking about five hours today

Day 5: Free Day
• Spend a free day resting up, acclimitizing, and exploring Namche Bazaar
• This colorful Sherpa town is great for souvenir shopping and scenic hiking
• Spend the day hiking to Thami, Khumjung, or the Everest View Hotel or in the surrounding foothills of Sagarmatha National Park

Day 6: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
• Descend through rhododendron forests to the suspension bridge at Phunki Tenga
• After, you'll start the steep climb to arrive at Tengboche
• Check out the stunning views of Everest and Ama Dablam and visit the nearby Buddhist monastery

Day 7: Tengboche to Dingboche
• Descend into Dingboche with a four-hour hike following the river up the Imja Valley
• You'll have a chance to spot the endangered musk deer
• Then, leave the forests behind with a steep climb to Dingboche

Day 8: Free Day
• Spend a free day getting acclimated to the high altitude
• The scenic village is surrounded by mountain views and a patchwork of fields
• A range of day hikes are available, or just hang around the village

Day 9: Dingboche to Lobuche
• Follow the valley to reach the entrance to the Khumbu Valley
• Make the steep climb over the Thokla Pass and follow the edge of the glacial moraine into Lobuche

Day 10: Lobuche to Gorak Shep
• Continue along the Khumbu Valley about four hours to the Lobuche Pass
• Take a much-needed break in Gorak Shep before your ascent of Kala Patthar
• Then, return to Gorak Shep for the night

Day 11: Everest Base Camp
• Continue along the edge of the Khumbu Glacier until you reach Everest Base Camp
• You may even see expeditions preparing to climb Mount Everest
• Spend some time soaking up the view—and the accomplishment
• Then, you'll make your way back down to Lobuche

Days 12-14: Lobuche to Lukla
• Now that you've acclimated to the altitude, trekking will be much easier though the days are long
• You'll have plenty of time to admire the view as you head back to Lukla
Three nights at trekking lodges in Pangboche, Namche Bazaar, and Lukla. Daily breakfast provided.

Days 15-16: Final Days in Kathmandu
• Board your flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu
• Spend two days exploring the city however you wish
• Optional tours are available to visit nearby towns of Patan and Bhaktapur
• Or, arrange to join a rafting trip on the Bhote Koshi River
Two nights at Kathmandu Apsara Boutique Hotel. Daily breakfast provided.

Day 17: Your Adventure Comes to a Close
• Land-only trips end as you check out of the hotel and are transferred to the airport for your flight home
